This list is editorially researched. No single metric — an award, a review score or a firm's own marketing — determines inclusion. Every firm is assessed against the same nine criteria below, each weighted according to how much it matters to businesses choosing commercial litigation counsel in Dubai.
To help businesses facing a commercial dispute find Dubai firms with strong litigation track records, assessed on the same criteria for every firm.
We rely primarily on verifiable professional sources: law-firm and lawyer biographies, professional directories, regulatory and licensing information where applicable, reported cases and transactions, reputable legal publications, professional awards, conference profiles and other credible public sources.
We evaluate:
We assess whether the firm has a clearly demonstrated commercial litigation specialisation, typically covering:
Demonstrable expertise in a defined field carries more weight than a firm claiming to handle everything.

We do not repeat unverifiable claims such as “won hundreds of cases” unless a credible source supports them.
We consider reputable third-party recognition such as:
Awards alone never determine a ranking.
We look for signals such as:
Where credible information exists, we consider:
Online reviews are treated cautiously because they can be manipulated.
Commercial disputes in Dubai often involve foreign parties, foreign-law contracts or assets abroad. We consider:

It depends on where your case will be heard and what it is about. Firms with Emirati advocates and long experience in the onshore courts are often strongest there, while others are best known for DIFC Courts work or arbitration. Ask about recent cases of a similar type and value.
A straightforward case at first instance in the Dubai Courts might take several months, but appeals and cassation can add a year or more. Cases referred to a court-appointed expert usually take longer. Payment orders for undisputed debts can be much faster. Your lawyer should give you a realistic timeline, including appeals.
Litigation is usually billed hourly or as a fixed fee per stage, such as first instance, appeal and cassation. Court fees are calculated on the value of the claim and are capped. Expert fees and translations are extra. Ask for a budget per stage and an honest view of what you might recover in costs, which is often limited in onshore courts.
That usually depends on what your contract says. If it has a valid arbitration clause, the courts will generally refer the dispute to arbitration if the other side raises it. If not, you choose between the onshore courts and, where available, the DIFC Courts. A lawyer can explain which forum is faster, cheaper and more enforceable for your dispute.
Procedure in the onshore courts is governed by the Civil Procedure Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 42 of 2022, and evidence by Federal Decree-Law No. 35 of 2022. Substantive claims draw on the Commercial Transactions Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 50 of 2022, the Commercial Companies Law and the Civil Transactions Law, now Federal Decree-Law No. 25 of 2025. The DIFC Courts apply their own laws and rules.
Yes, but within limits. Foreign-qualified lawyers usually work in Dubai as licensed legal consultants, advising on contracts, transactions and regulatory questions, and they can appear before the DIFC Courts once registered there. Appearing before the onshore Dubai Courts is generally reserved for UAE-national advocates holding the right licence, which is why many international firms work alongside local advocates on court matters.
A properly licensed firm will give you its licence details without hesitation. You can confirm them with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department, which licenses law firms and legal consultants in the emirate, or with the UAE Ministry of Justice for advocates. For anything in the DIFC, the DIFC Courts keep a public Register of Practitioners. Independent guides like Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 are a useful second check on the individual lawyer's track record.
Large firms are useful for very large, multi-jurisdiction disputes needing big teams. Litigation boutiques and established local firms often have more court experience in the onshore system and may offer partner-level attention at lower cost. The key question is who will actually argue your case and how often they appear in that court.
Ask how strong your case is and why, which court or forum applies, how long each stage will take, what it will cost, what you could realistically recover, and whether settlement or mediation makes sense. Bring the contract, invoices, correspondence and any notices from the other side.
That depends on how they are licensed. Federal courts, the separate Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah courts, and the DIFC and ADGM Courts all have their own admission rules. Emirati advocates handle most onshore court appearances, while registered foreign practitioners can appear in the DIFC and ADGM Courts. Ask who will actually stand up in court for you, and confirm they are admitted there.
Good commercial litigators in Dubai combine real courtroom experience with sound commercial judgment about when a case is worth fighting. Use this ranking to shortlist firms that regularly appear in the forum your dispute belongs in, compare their honest assessment of your case and their fees, and move promptly so no deadline is missed.
